Visit to Historic Fort Scott.

Lance and the kids were in Texas for 6 days, so Jane and Tig took the opportunity to go to historic Fort Scott. It was founded in 1940 and was an important outpost in the American frontier.

Here, Jane stands in front of the fort. This building holds the National Historic Site office and the gift shop.

The seal of Kansas, with pictures showing bits of Kansas history.

The buildings to the right were officers quarters.

We got to see some historical reenactment going on while we were there. Here, the man stokes the fire while the woman prepares to iron some clothes.

Jane checks out the old-style washing stuff.

Across from the fort, there are many antique shops in the old part of Fort Scott.

Jane stands on the street corner in old town Fort Scott. Notice that the streets are paved mostly with the old brick, consistent with how it looked in the late 1800s.

Next, we left old town to go to new Fort Scott. The Great Plains Deli has the best sandwiches in Kansas!

Yum, yum! Jane had a chicken salad sandwich on wheat while Tig had cheese and veggies on rye! And these are the small-size sandwiches!
