Father's Day.

We started Father's Day, June 15th, by giving Boppa (Lance) his presents to open.

First he opened a book about airplanes, from Jane.

Next, he opened this little box from Tig. Seph and Zury wanted to know what was inside just as badly as Boppa!

Oooh, a hat!

Wearing his hedgehog hat from Tig, Lance and Seph look at the mini zip-zap racers the kids gave him. They are tiny, but fully functional remote control cars.

Jane surprised Lance with one last present.

A beautiful, decorative display knife.

Next, we went for a drive. We decided to explore scenic Woodson County. We had a map that showed where many towns used to be. 150 years ago, there was a town where this wheat field now stands.

Most of the roads in Woodson County are gravel like this one.

Looks like someone used this stop sign for target practice.

This old cemetary was nestled in a corner at the intersection of two country roads. Graves dated back to the mid 1800s.

A rock quarry.

After passing miles and miles of fields, we stumbled on a home decorated with yard art.

The yard art is for sale.

Next stop, Kalida. Kalida used to be the county seat, but there isn't much left now.

The stone pillars were once the town gates of Kalida.

Enjoying the shade.

The castle at Kalida. This castle is built in the 1800's, onto a natural cave that extends about 30' back. In olden times, before refrigerators, it was used as a cooler.

Checking out the castle, close up.

Jane and Seph, goofing around!

Seph and Zury insisted on getting their picture taken by the beautiful flowers.

After a while, we got really off of the beaten path, looking for an alleged petroglyph cave in northwest Woodson County.

Nothing but grass and trees and fields for miles and miles.

Grass, tree, fields, and cows, that is.

Picture perfect- looks like a painting!

The cows wanted to come check us out, too!

We asked these friendly cows for directions, but they didn't seem too sure.

After a couple miles of this, the ruts looked bigger than the car, so we gave up the search for the petroglyph cave.

We did find some evidence of recent tornadic winds...

But, overall, our day was just like this picture- an enjoyment of the idyllic scenery.
